One of the biggest dogs recognized by the American Kennel Club, the massive Mastiff loves being around people and is known to bond closely with his family. A combination of grandeur and good nature as well as courage and docility, he was bred in England and used as a watchdog for more than two thousand years. The breeds short coat can be fawn, apricot or brindle.
English Mastiffs, also known as Mastiffs, are among the largest dogs in existence. They typically have a short coat, a long low-set tail and large feet. European and Asian records dating back 3,000 years show dogs of the mastiff type. Mastiffs have historically been guard dogs who were masters at protecting property and homes. They have also served as successful hunting dogs too.
This breed is a very alert, focused, and energetic breed that is protective of his family. They have a soft and gentle side and are also known to show great care. They tend to bond with family quickly who they enjoy being around. This is a powerful breed of dog and training at an early age using positive reinforcement is suggested.
The Mastiff does require regular grooming and bathing. This breed does do best with a thorough bath every four to five weeks. Routine nail clipping will help this pup feel his best. Daily brushing will help to keep his coat’s appearance healthy and clean.
English Mastiff are active dogs and do need ample amounts of energy to feel their best. The correct ratio of meat-based protein and micronutrients, as well as healthy carbs and fats, will keep this breed healthy. Many English Mastiff owners recommend feeding this dog two meals a day, spaced about twelve hours apart. It is also very important to remember to provide your dog with proper dental care. It is suggested that his teeth get cleaned a minimum of three times a week. Failing to keep his teeth clean can contribute to health issues.
